ENTRY #001: How do you introduce yourself again?
Ah, the customary introduction. The absolute bane of my existence, and yet, it has to be done.
An apology probably isn’t the best way to kick this off but I’ll have to ask you to excuse me — for the rusty way I write and the nigh-incoherent contents of my introduction. For the possibly bad writing style, I do enjoy writing and I used to write a lot more frequently, I just haven’t had the opportunity to practice as of late. And as for the content, I’m just terrible at introducing myself; no excuses there. The last time I made myself a description on social media, I gave my name, pronouns (she/her, by the way), primary content, and the heading title ‘forest fire’; it was lackluster, but good enough, I guess. Story of my life.
Coming back to our regularly-scheduled program — you can call me Jamie.
God, how are you supposed to introduce yourself again? Basics, basics... I’m in my last year of high school as of starting this blog, I’ve been living in the UAE (foreigners might recognize it better through its most popular city, Dubai) for the last twelve years but I’m a Philippine native, and I’m the second in a roster of four kids.
I like to read and, as school-mandated textbooks published in the late 2000s might phrase it, ‘surf the net’. Not sure if I should even be putting this next bit out there (for fear of ridicule), but making metas and analyses on my favorite shows, books, and comics (yeah, nerd alert!, I know. Shove me into a locker or something.) is also something I enjoy doing. I love my friends but my social life’s nothing special (if you ignore the occasional obligatory bout of teen angst and drama) and most of my childhood and early adolescence are marred with cringe-y memories I repress constantly.
As if I didn't fill the nerd stereotype enough, I'm quite private IRL and I don’t go out much (though these days, none of us really do) so you’d think that trying to harbor a public audience to interact with is kind of a weird hobby for me, right? That's where you're wrong, audience member— people can contain multitudes! For example, I’m ALSO a chronic oversharer who’s afraid of exhausting the people I know personally with my rambling (which I do, constantly). So, if anything, I’d say having this little cranny in the void (re: the internet) to scream into is kind of perfect for me. You, dear readers, get to come and stay or go freely while I get to exercise my chatterbox impulses and annoy the hell out of anyone who passes by — with consent! Isn’t that nice :’)?
I’m not quite sure what I want to do with this blog yet, but categorically, I’d say it’s under ‘personal’. Not in the sharing-life-experiences way (wait, maybe?), but more in the sense that I’ll publish whatever I’m interested in and things I think others would like to see too, and hope it all comes together like a fluid ecosystem and not like... 200 acres of pine trees and a thunderstorm. We can call it a test of my organization skills.
I said I might talk about my personal life in the previous paragraph but I don’t think this blog will be very lifestyle-intensive, if only because there’s not a lot to say about my day-to-day. (I do think it’d be kind of fun to chronicle my entire life story to a bunch of strangers on the internet though; that’s probably my oversharer trait rearing its problematic head.) I know I’ll be publishing pieces about my school experiences though; I’ve gone through a very particular set of circumstances that I'm sure someone out there would like some insight on. I know I did, way back when. More on that in my next entry!
Despite not having an overarching idea on what, specifically, my content will be set around, I do have some post ideas lined up and the excitement of starting something new is still fresh in me so—! Let’s see how long I can keep this up >:D.
